National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists Award and other "pay to play" college acceptance enhancement programs.

How many of you have had your high school age child get one of these letters stating that they

"have been selected to participate as a delegate (for your school) based on your high grade average and civic envolvement...."

I know there are a lot of varying opinions of course the easy ones to find are the ones that don't find these "programs" useful.

Some of these involve travel to Europe, England, Asia, etc and sound like a blast like People to People that was originally started as a youth-building program by President Eisenhower and still going today, and yes there are naysayers for that program as well but People to People sure sounds like a great experience if your kids get nothing else out of it.

I am looking for experiences from local people that have actual experience with one of these programs... please feel free to comment.

Thank you.

I have seen this story...:

Don't expect this 'award' to help you enter college
