Stop and Shop

When I was at Demoulas today the cashier told me that Stop & Shop had bought the plaza that Brooks, Blockbuster etc. are in on Main St. and they are putting a Stop & Shop and Rite Aid in there. Anyone know anything about that?

I was told the same thing about Stop & Shop. No idea how true it is, but I can't imagine it working out.

Ohhhh a Starbucks - that would mean I would get Perfectos all to myself!!!!!!

It's amazing how things get around - and that would really increase the already yucky traffic for that stretch of road (i.e. sitting in the middle of the Livingston Street intersection because of the backups at the Shawsheen lights)...but I suppose having another choice (and not all the way down on the other side of the world) would be nice.

In front of Wal-Mart is going to be a Quizno's sub shop, KFC and a Dollar Store. I'm not sure what else.

I'd be surprised if Stop & Shop was allowed to move into town again. They had to close the Purity farther north on Main St when they bought the Purity chain. But that was 10 years ago, so maybe the poison pill ran out.

And, we all know that Market Basket will do everything and anything (true or not) to prevent the permiting of a grocery store in their home town. Look what they did to Hannafords in Lowell, that took years to do.

Not just Hannaford's in Lowell, but also Stop & Shop in Hudson, across from DeMoulas and also another time in Chelmsford with a competitor. Usually the tool of choice is a traffic study to keep competitors away for a few years.

From the Northwest section of Sunday's Boston Globe's "Community Briefing":

TEWKSBURY- Plaza Takes Shape

Construction is more than half-finished at the retail development on Route 38, in the Walmart shopping center. The 29,000 square foot plaza is slated to be completed by late December, according to Brian Lafferty of Empire Management Inc., based in Acton, which owns the parcel. Lafferty said the three buildings are attracting national retail outlets, including a fast food restaurant or a bank for the 3,300 square foot structure, and a credit union making up part of the 4,000 square foot building. The adjacent 21,000 square foot building will contain about 14 outlets. Lafferty said he expects Wamesit Place to open in January, with three quarters of the units occupied.

Oh my God! ANOTHER freaking Credit Union??? I never ever see anyone at the Tewksbury Credit Union except the 2 cars parked there every day and those are the people that probably work there. And they are bringing in Metropolitan Credit Union in that new plaza just finished. Geez....I think we need a few more pizza places too! HA HA
