New 40B threat. Clearcutting all trees, 75 units on Astle St

Postby bferrari on Wed Jan 24, 2018 11:36 am

Had we NOT taken money in lieu of 40B affordable housing units in the recent explosion of condominium developments, we would NOT have to deal with this new 40B thread !!!

At the selectman’s meeting , Jim Andella represented by Dave Plunkett is going to propose 75 units off of Astle Street. They want to demolish that corner and take down the trees and put in affordable housing units.

You may recall that Andella’s prior proposal of a bank and apartments was shot down at town meeting.

The local housing partnership has endorsed this. Dave Plunkett used to be on the planning board. I am surprised at the endorsement of this project in this location. Lots of trees will be lost turning it into a bald hill.

I've got a friend who lives in that neighborhood. I heard that this guy Andella has been threatening businesses up there, especially Penney's, that if they try to stop this development he will do everything he can to get the state and federal government involved in their businesses. Not sure what that means but he sounds like a real swell guy. Classic Tewksbury parasite developer. I am writing the Selectmen about this and you should too! Oh, and I also heard that there was some Astle St. people at the Selectmen's meeting on the 23rd and that Andella was pissed! Save our town!

Sadly, when you have Selectmen, who vote to take 30 Silver Coins in lieu of counting units against the 10% mandate, it's likely we have been destroyed from within. The scam that is 40B will continue to rain its destruction down upon the working people of Tewksbury. No amount of money offered can ever counter the damage, and cost to the Taxpayers, of a parasitic 40B development.

VOTE NO against this project ! Well there really isn't a Vote to vote on. BUT Tell your Selectment and Planning Board members they are wrong! This is all about money in developer pockets.

We are over 9% affordability in town already more than our fair share in Massachusetts. We do NOT NEED MORE DENSE PROJECTS of ANY KIND!

Before anyone goes into total panic mode this project is in the VERY preliminary stages despite what the developer's attorney supposedly inferred before the BOS. Local Housing Partnership have yet to fully endorse this and Selectman Jay Kelly had the right idea in saying he didn't have enough information in front of him to make a decision one way or another. There are still supposed to be multiple hearings held involving the surrounding neighborhood so residents DO have a chance to be heard. My concern is the developer acts like he wants to do things on the up and up involving the LHP yet word on the street is he's holding the 40B threat in his back pocket to those who push back. I would keep a watchful eye on this one and let your board members know how you feel.

Has anyone seen this idiot Eric Ryder allegedly running for Planning Board talking on Facebook about how great 40b is? Just another guy from Lowell who wants to turn our town into where he came from. Hey, buddy, if you love Lowell so much, GO BACK! He also seems to be a public sector hack up in NH. Talk about a dangerous combo. End 40b! Don’t vote in lowest common denominator advocates!
