The Coyote

California:
The Governor of California is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks the Governor's dog, then bites the Governor. 1. The Governor starts to intervene, but reflects upon the movie "Bambi" and then realizes he should stop because the coyote is only doing what is natural. 2. He calls animal control. Animal Control captures the coyote and bills the State $200 testing it for diseases and $500 for relocating it. 3. He calls a veterinarian. The vet collects the dead dog and bills the State $200 testing it for diseases. 4. The Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for diseases from the coyote and on getting his bite wound bandaged. 5. The running trail gets shut down for 6 months while Fish & Game conducts a $100,000 survey to make sure the area is now free of dangerous animals. 6. The Governor spends $50,000 in state funds implementing a "coyote awareness program" for residents of the area. 7. The State Legislature spends $2 million to study how to better treat rabies and how to permanently eradicate the disease throughout the world. 8. The Governor's security agent is fired for not stopping the attack. The State spends $150,000 to hire and train a new agent with additional special training ... Re: The Nature Of Coyotes!!! 9. PETA protests the coyote's relocation and files a $5 million suit against the State.

Texas:
The Governor of Texas is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A Coyote jumps out and attacks his dog. 1. The Governor shoots the coyote with his State-issued pistol and keeps jogging. The Governor has spent $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point cartridge. 2. The Buzzards eat the dead coyote. And that, my friends, is why California is broke and Texas is not!!!

Doug,
How about an answer to the DPW asst superintendent question

When only 3 DPW employees report to work in a snowstorm, the town has a problem.

The asst. supt. proposal is a needed part of a reorg.

What would you do, LW?

Doug,
I am now very confused. So only 3 employees show during a snowstorm. To combat this problem, we decide to hire an assistant that the employeesw will listen to more than the head of the DPW. You asked me a question Doug. What would I do?? Well I would fire the head of the DPW if he has no control over his men , not hire a # 2. Or better yet, completely privatize the public works dept What say yee to my way of handling the issue

This is real simple. Not confusing.
Public or private sector, anyone who wants a job should be prepared to work hard once they are hired.
Those who decide to hardly work, hardly deserve to keep their jobs.

It isn't just about a disinclination to work during blizzards at the DPW.
That's just representative of the over all problem(s). It is a cultural thing.
There is a reorg in the wind. I will await to see how the manager does it.

The TM will explain the need in his budget message.
You can ask him directly .... or just stay tuned.

If employees didn't show up was it a job action? I hope the new TM is working with the superintendent to make sure it doesn't happen again. With so many unemployed people that would love a DPW job it is too bad that those that don't want to work can't be fired!

Doug:

You say simple. Not confusing.
Then you talk in generalities and veiled references.
Please stop teasing with tidbits.
You are on the Board of Selectman.
Why don't YOU ask the Town Manager at a BOS meeting?
Better yet, why don't YOU and the other selectman discuss this at a BOS meeting?
Members of the BOS are elected by the townspeople,
The Town Manager is hired by the BOS to implement the voters' wishes as interpreted by the BOS.
I would like more clarity and more leadership.

Doug the question shouldn't be what would L W do, what will you as a member of the BOS do?

Isn't it the way things go?!

A selectman asks a taxpayer for suggestions and direction, and -- the useless answer comes back -- that it is the public official's job to provide the answer!

LOL

Doug,

You just supply criptic answers.

How about quitting the riddler impersonation.

A plain and simple answer to the people who either voted for you or are stuck with you (me)

You go to the effort to post your crazy agenda and answer very little.

you dont answer a question with another question.

Do your job or move on!

The TM will address the plans for an Asst. DPW Mgr. Tuesday at the BOS Meeting.
