Friends of Tewksbury Open Space,

Please mark your calendars as our first ever 'Halfway to Earth Day' event is planned for Saturday, October 21st! We really do need all the help we can get to continue to advance the great environmental initiatives that are going on in Town as well as to continue to support the environmental groups and leaders that are making a positive impact here in Town. Here are the exciting projects we have planned for the event:

  • Chandler Well Field Boardwalk Construction-volunteers will be working to complete the construction of a 200’ boardwalk that spans the Heath Brook while also cleaning this beautiful piece of land that is along the proposed Bay Circuit Trail in Tewksbury
  • Long Pond Restoration- the rain gardens and bioswales that play a crucial role in Long Ponds storm water filtration process are going to continue to be maintained
  • State Hospital Cemetery Reclamation- the great cleanup and revival efforts of the Tewksbury Hospital Pines Cemetery are going to be continued
  • Shawsheen River Clean Up Efforts-members of the Shawsheen River Watershed Association are going to be cleaning up several areas along the Shawsheen River.
  • 2000 Whipple Road Recreation Park-The 'Friends of Shawsheen Launch’ are going to be working in collaboration with the High School's International Club to continue to transform this piece of land along the Shawsheen River into a multipurpose recreation park that includes kayaking, fishing, and bird watching.
  • Community Garden Improvements-help is sought to build an arbored bench, rebuild a set of 3 compost bins, plant a bed of garlic, stain a picnic table, and assemble 5 lasagna beds
  • Trash Pick Up- Join the Beautification Committee to pick up trash on Tewksbury roadways. Choose a spot that needs work or see our list of hot spots. One hour can make a big difference.
  • Bligh St Boardwalk Construction- An Eagle Scout will be completing a boardwalk that connects the Tewksbury portion of the Bay Circuit Trail to the Andover trail system

All of these projects need help! If you are interested in getting involved please use this link to sign up for one of the above listed projects If you have any questions please reach out to me directly. I look forward to another great event and hopefully seeing you all out there!

There are SO many 'good and worthwhile' volunteer projects to get involved in around Town and meet some great like-minded people. We may not always be able to do anything to curtail all the building but at least this is something POSITIVE to put your efforts toward that WILL make a difference so people can utilize the remaining open spaces we do have! Please consider helping out at this 'Halfway to Earth Day' event. Sign up for one of the MANY projects to choose from here: Thanks. 8)
