Sun Letter to Editor

Discussions about the the ridiculous tax evaluations alot of homes received during this recession. (Great timing). Also, any discussions about taxes at all.

Tewksbury must control costs
The Lowell Sun

Tewksbury Selectman Jerry Selissen has admitted what Tewksbury taxpayers have known for some time — that the Board of Selectmen, school board and town manager “don't do good long-range financial planning.â€￾

In fact, the Board of Selectmen showed that when it awarded the town manager an exorbitant and unwarranted extension on his contract. Will Mr. Cressman deduct 5 percent from his personal salary budget as he is asking department heads to cut 5 percent from their budgets? It will be interesting to see what extra perks the School Board rewards the school administration with this year even though they are facing a budget shortfall and don't know what to do about it.

Here's an idea for both boards — make the town departments live within their budgets.

Stop passing the blame on state-aid cutbacks and do what you are elected to do — control expenses and benefit all Tewksbury citizens. Start by having the town administrators justify every expense, and every position, not just take last year's budget and add their “wish listâ€￾ to it and then say how they can't do without everything in it without impacting service to the community. Second, don't give up the bank because you are afraid someone will leave to go elsewhere. It isn't any easier elsewhere.

Can't help it Mr. Sellisen and Co., but..."we" told you so!

Too little too late, IMO.

Great Letter to the Editor! Truer words have never been spoken. I would be interested to hear what janespeak has to say about it, or is she/he too busy marching on the Town Common to read it.
