Tewksbury Memorial Day Ceremony & Parade - Monday 5/28

Postby Mrs C on Sun May 20, 2012 11:46 pm

Tewksbury’s Memorial Day Service and Parade will be held on Monday, May 28, 2012.

The Memorial Service at East Street Cemetery will begin promptly at 12:45 p.m.. State Senator Barry Finegold, State Representative Jim Miceli and State Representative Paul Adams will be in attendance, along with local dignitaries from the Board of Selectmen and other Town Boards. We are pleased to announce that U.S. Senator Scott Brown will also be marching in this year’s parade.

Following the Service the people participating in the Memorial Day Parade will march down East Street to the Town Hall and the parade will begin from there at approximately 2pm. We have 7 Marching Bands this year, as well as a number of Shriners Units and lots of floats. Various Town organizations will be marching as well. The parade will continue down Main Street just to the South of the U.S. Post Office.

This year a number of units are being sponsored by various organizations. IRA Nissan, IRA Toyota, Schlott Tire and Lowell Five are each sponsoring a marching unit. Additionally, this year for the first time “This program is supported in part by a grant from the Tewksbury Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency”.

We thank each of our sponsors for their support and look forward to a GREAT day remembering those who have served our Country with honor.

Finally, a number of youngster representing the Friends of the Tewksbury PAC will be passing the bucket to collect money for this upcoming 4th of July Celebration. The Friends of the Tewksbury PAC, Inc. are a 501 C 3 (tax deductible) charitable organization.

As always, we thank the Town of Tewksbury for it's continued support. Without you, we wouldn't be able to do what we do. :D

Is there an address to send contributions too? I am sure people would love to donate to the parade and fireworks.

Hi Mrs. C.

Do you know if the mailing went out to participating organizations giving them line up and other information?

Thanks,
Melissa

Hi Melissa,

My understanding is that the instructions and maps with where you need to meet/go were being sent out early this week. If you don't have what you need by Friday, please call Jerry :D

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the DPW/police detail. I'm sure it will be in the Crier and Patch next week.

Actually, not us this year... we are focusing on collecting $$ for the 4th of July. :D

HOWEVER ~ the Girl Scouts have taken the Food Pantry float, and they will be collecting on the route, so still do bring canned goods to donate (apparently they did not get a lot of donations on 5/12 - mail carrier collection day - and are down quite a lot :( )

What a beautiful day for a Hometown Parade! And a great parade it was following the very moving annual tribute to our Veterans at the Tewksbury cemetery. The meaning of this day is not lost in our Town of Tewksbury! Thanks to our local officials, veterans, HS band, boys and girls scouts and everyone else who participated! Wonderful to see all the families out both young and old to partake in the festivities and KUDOS all around to all who make it possible. It truly is a special event. Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day! 8)
