4th of July Fireworks 2013

The Friends of the Tewksbury Patriotic Activities Committee was formed in 2006 to promote and organize community funding and participation for patriotic events such as the Memorial Day parade, Veterans Day service, and Independence Day celebrations.

4th of July Fireworks 2013

We had a "hail Mary" -- there will be fireworks this year.

They will be on Friday 7/5 at Livingston St. Recreation area.

Will post more details when they become available.

FYI: They will be shorter than they have been in years past (about 15 mins vs. the usual 25-30 we usually have). The reason for this is because after the article in the Crier a couple of weeks ago, we were approached by 2 organizations who are giving us a combined amount of $6 K to completely underwrite the fireworks. They normally cost about $10 or $11. If we raise additional funds in the next 2 weeks, the shooter will add to the display.

You can thank Pat Holland, Chair of the Committee, for making this happen. He pulled it together in the 11th hour.

Who donated the money? Shouldn't they be the ones getting the praise right now?

Yes, they should. However, these organization/people do not want to be publicly named, and as such we must respect that. That being said, please believe that we would not be having fireworks were it not for these people/groups.

The committee had an emergency meeting Monday night to discuss the offers of financial support. Knowing how much fireworks are a part of the 4th of July, and how hard we as a committee have worked to keep this going for the last 5+ years, we decided it would be worth the effort to make it happen.

As for Pat - even though the entire committee is on board and helping, it was Pat who was approached by the donors, and Pat who pulled it together. He secured the shooter/fireworks; he got the band; and he is taking care of many of the 'behind the scenes' things that members of the general public have no idea go into planning an event like this. So I stand by what I said: Pat Holland deserves the credit for bringing this together in the 11th hour. And without him, there wouldn't be fireworks this year.

Thanks to everyone who came out tonight to enjoy the fireworks! While the show was shorter than usual due to funding (18 mins vs. the usual 25-30), it was still a pretty great show.

For anyone who's interested in helping continue with such a wonderful family event, any donation (even $1) would help. Remember, we are a 501(c)3 charitable organization, so anyone who donates can claim it as a charitable deduction on their taxes. :D

You can send a donation to:

Friends of the Tewksbury Patriotic Activities Committee
PO Box 436
Tewksbury, MA 01876

To steal a pitch from those other groups that run pledge drives, remember that if you donate $10 - that's basically 2 or 3 trips to Dunkins or Donnas -or- lunch out at work. If you enjoy the fireworks and the Memorial Day parade, is giving up your coffee for a couple a days really that much of a hardship? Remember every little bit helps. Thank you again for always supporting us.
